Barry Callebaut to Close Norderstedt Plant

Swiss Chocolate Giant to Shutter German Factory

Norderstedt, Germany (November 29, 2023)

Barry Callebaut, the world's largest chocolate manufacturer, today announced plans to close its Norderstedt plant in Germany. The decision is part of the company's ongoing restructuring efforts to improve efficiency and profitability.

The Norderstedt plant, which employs around 250 people, produces a wide range of chocolate products for industrial and consumer markets. The closure is expected to take place over the next 12 months, with production being transferred to other Barry Callebaut facilities.

"This was a difficult decision, but it is necessary to ensure the long-term competitiveness of our business," said a company spokesperson. "We are committed to supporting our employees during this transition and will work closely with them to find alternative employment opportunities within the company or with other employers."

The closure of the Norderstedt plant is the latest in a series of cost-cutting measures by Barry Callebaut. In recent years, the company has closed or sold several other plants in Europe and North America.
